Rafflesia Information Centre, Tambunan
It was almost a 2 hour drive from Kota Kinabalu to Tambunan and the rain did not help much at all. Roads were horrendous, uphill most of the time. Thank God for Zain and his Triton that brought us all there and back safely.
Arrived at the info centre, got ourselves a guide by the name of Beddy. It was drizzling off and on but we decided to go on with our hike.
Fees:
Guide RM50
Entrance fee per pax RM5
Boots for rent RM4
Shoes for rent RM3
We were VERY lucky! We managed to see a Rafflesia bud, some blooms and a dead Rafflesia... all in one visit!
The bud will need about 6 to 7 months to bloom into a flower.
Usually, the flower will bloom in the night.
One flower usually last about 5 days and on the 6th day, petals will start drying up.
It was a fun and challenging visit as it was a rainy day. After our hike, there were at least 3 groups getting ready to hike down into the rainforest to see the rafflesias.
Together with our guide Beddy
Thank goodness for ropes to aid the climb up and down. Ground was terribly muddy and slippery.
