Kuala Lumpur - Victoria Fountain

Victoria Fountain 1904

Weird that I had not notice this gothic-looking fountain. Located right on the Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square), opposite the historical Sultan Abdul Samad building.

This fountain was shipped from England back in 1897 with the goal of celebrating Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee. However, it was only successfully assembled in 1904.
The art nouveau title work showed 8 lions and dragons, the protectors of the fountain. These iconic beasts were characterized as strong, honest, intelligent and loyal.
I see gargoyles!

Kuala Lumpur - Kampung Baru

Kampung Baru - The historic village

First construction was in 1900. This village is a good 121 years old. The unique thing about this traditional Malay village is that it is located right in the heart of downtown Kuala Lumpur, surrounded by skyscrapers. Thank goodness for the Saloma bridge now that everyone can visit Kampung Baru easily.

I was most excited to visit this village. Not sure what to expect so decided to just go with the flow.
Villagers were friendly. Their food street was amazing. There were all sorts of kuihs and traditional Malay dishes.

Lovely to be able to see the Twin Towers everywhere in this village

GREAT Sarawakian cooking here!

I pusing 3x only to realize afterwards that this restaurant is on the 1st floor! Was about to give Waze a good scolding, LOL. Chaotic search was worth it.

Honey Lemon

Tomato noodles

Sarawak laksa

Kolo Mee (takeaway)
Homemade Bittergourd Chips - super crispy and yummy

Kuala Lumpur - Saloma Bridge

The Saloma Link Bridge

Connecting Suria KLCC side to Kampung Baru.

We had a good walk all the way from Pavilion to Suria KLCC to the Saloma bridge and ended our walk in Kampung Baru. The Saloma bridge is impressive during the daytime. We have to walk back one evening to see its lights during the night.

Shanghai - Fairmont Peace Hotel - Breakfast

We had our New Year's breakfast in the famous Jazz bar in the hotel.
This bar is one of the oldest in Shanghai since 1920s.

Breakfast was grand!
