Kuala Kubu Bharu & Ulu Yam

Kuala Kubu Bharu @ KKB is a small little town on the way to Fraser's Hills. It used to be a fort for Raja Mahadi when he fought with Tengku Kudin during the Selangor civil war from 1867 to 1874. Kubu + Fort.
This town was totally destroyed when the Kuala Kubu dam burst in 1883. The British rebuilt this town and named it Kuala Kubu Bharu. Bharu = New.
Teng Wun Bakery and Confectionary (since 1979) is famous for its kaya puffs. Kaya puffs are selling for RM1 each! Other than kaya puffs, we also bought attractive puffs to try.

Restaurant Xin Yuen Kee is famous for its Loh Mee and other seafood dishes. We decided to try its Sang Har noodles and some other bites. Deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelicious.

After brunch, we decided to walk around the town. Loved to see some parts of the roads were cobbled. Quiet little town.

Pretty fragrant flowers

Old shophouses

Found mysterious looking stairs right smack in the town area. Climbed up to find the police station!

Ngok San Temple
Wild weed flowers

This temple's doors were shut.
Stopped by some reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally old shops to have coffee and a bit to eat. I meant roof-almost-falling-down old. But, they make FABULOUS coffee.

Alright, we had enough to KKB. Ulu Yam is next. It is another small town located in Batang Kali, Selangor. Ulu Yam is supposedly famous for its Loh Mee. However, I had other plans. I wanted to surprise Hubs. He is a orchid lover. Let's see what I found in Ulu Yam....
On the way to Orchid Land
World of Orchids at Ulu Yam

Ta Daaaaaaaaaa... Hubs' eyes opened wide and shone like diamonds when he saw the orchids. Then he disappeared on me!!! Between orchids and me, I am chopped liver!!! Oh well, nothing could beat the grin on his face though.
Oh yeah, he wanted to buy every pot of orchids home!

The famous Restaurant Aik Khoon at Ulu Yam

Kam heong crabs
I wished we had our eating buddies with us. We needed more mouths to try all the dishes there. Everything sounded so delicious. They had Loh Mee (of course), Hokkien noodles, Guinness Chicken Wings, Assam steamed fish, Fried Mantis prawns, Tofu with Fish Maw..... WE NEED TO GET BACK THERE SOON with compadres.
