Shanghai Huangpu River Cruise

The Huangpu River is known as The Mother River of Shanghai. This river is about 70 miles and divides Shanghai into Pudong (east) and Puxi (west).

We decided to take the 7.15 PM cruise as the lights are usually turned on by 7 PM. Ticket price was 120 Yuan (about RM70) per person. The cruise lasted about an hour.

The scenery was breathtaking in addition to autumn weather, which was cool and breezy. However, the experience of waiting and queueing with the majority of the Chinese people was quite chaotic. They have no respect for personal space. They took advantage of having someone in a wheelchair to cut queue but the person in the wheelchair walked fine when he was on board.

Everyone was in a mad rush, as if they were there to get free gold bars. What was the rush about? After all, we were all going up the same boat. Did they not realize that? There was no need to rush for seats, the boat is big enough and there are several decks. Their despicable behavior left a nasty taste of the river cruise experience for me.

One-leaf Plant

Monophyllaea or the One-leaf plant can usually be found in caves. You can see them growing from limestone rocks, entrances of caves and forests. Quite a peculiar looking plant and they easily missed. One stalk one leaf, and they produce pretty little white flowers too. So, next time when you are visiting a cave, look out for these unique beauties.

I have visited a few caves but it was only yesterday that my sister-in-law told me to look closely at the leaves. She said, "Do you see only one leaf for every plant?" We were visiting the Kek Lok Tong in Ipoh.
