Ibadah Korban UKM 1446H

What a memorable day!
We could not have chosen a better first place to witness the Ibadah Korban (Ritual of Sacrifice) during this blessed Hari Raya Haji 2025.

Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)
Majlis Ibadah Korban UKM 1446H
10 June 2025 | 13 Zulhijjah 1446H
Masjid UKM, Bangi

UKM has a team of 230 participants to manage and organize the whole process of this ritual. They showed an impressive collective team spirit of togetherness. It was awesome to witness everybody in action; each working towards a common accomplishment ~ to slaughter 18 cows as a symbol of generosity and sacrifice, thereafter the meat would be carefully packed and distributed to the needy.

Ibadah Korban is a core part of the Islamic religious observance of Hari Raya Aidiladha, and we are very honored to have witnessed and learnt more about it. We appreciated the warm welcome from UKM, specifically from Dr. Abu Dardaa.

It was a rainy morning. Didn’t stop me from going!

It was honestly amazing to watch each committee at work. I believed they had about 11 committees, each had their own work cut out for them. From slaughtering the cows, deskinning, chopping, dividing, packing … even the kitchen has its own groups of people for each job.
So organized. So systematic. Such awesome team work.

Surprise volunteer!!!

Tuck Kee Ancient Taste 德记(老字号)炒粉

A taste of Ipoh in Rawang

Visited the restaurant and found that this the 3rd generation running this brand, and Rawang is just a branch. However, their noodles and taugeh come from Ipoh directly.
Oh ya, I was happy to find big big fat fat Ipoh taugeh here!

Lots more variety in their menu

Pekan Bongawan

The END of old Pekan Bongawan in Papar, Sabah. Engulfed in flames at about 5AM on 10 June 2025.
Bongawan was not my hometown, but it was a sad sight as I love old historical buildings. Especially when these shophouses were built pre World War II and actually the bombings during that war.

I believe that some of these wooden shophouses were already built in the 1920s.

I last visited Bongawan in 2019. I had visited Bongawan many times before but when I decided to visit in 2019, it was to photograph the village. It was such an old and tired village and this was what I was afraid the most. FIRE.
Nobody pays much attention to this unattractive town. Nothing much to see here. Just blocks of old wooden shophouses that actually looked as though they might collapse any time. But old folks were still living here. Families were still around. Making a simple living. Living a simple life.

These are my only photos of Bongawan.

Kampung Chui Chak

First stop was at their Hakka Lei Cha house. Only then found out we could not dine in, only tapau allowed.
Lady boss was quite hilarious, she took a look at us and asked “You know how to eat this?”
We must have looked too mucg of a city folk!
In my heart, I asked “You know how to cook this or not?”
Hahahaaaaaa!

We went hunting for food. Went to Taman Langkap and found a kopitiam. My chap fan RM7

Paddy field was actually harvested a week earlier, much to my sadness, due to unpredictable weather.

Geylang Lor 9’s American Bullfrog frog farm!
Ahhh I have seen this restaurant name, in SS2. Mostly in JB and Singapore. Specializes in frog porridge.

There are 200+ ponds in this farm, each containing about 1.5 K tadpoles / froggies

6 months old… all ready to be shipped out!
