The Mossy Forest

The Mossy Forest. A montane rainforest in the clouds. 220 million years old. 6666 feet above sea level.

Located at the highest point in Cameron Highlands, specifically at Gunung Brinchang @ Brinchang Mountain. It is eerie, exciting, beautiful, mysterious and ancient. What wonderful feelings all fused together!

The drive up the mountain was most challenging. Our guide was very experience, thank goodness, with his old jeep. The road could only fit 1 1/2 vehicles!!! One mistake and one could roll down the ravine. When we arrived, there was mist in the air. A little walk to the highest point of the mountain and it was actually the border of Perak and Pahang.

I just wanted to walk slowly and enjoy the moss-covered trees and branches. Our guide, Das, was very patient. He stayed behind to give me a helping hand whenever there was a high climb as I had short legs! We went through a muddy trail with no rope and guide; just us and mud and moss-covered trees and earth. Most challenging when there were mud puddles to avoid sinking into. Standing in the midst of the green fairyland was just a magical feeling.

We didn't see much flora and fauna, just one lonely pitcher plant. However, the velvet green forest is enchanting enough.
