This is the University of Kansas located in Lawrence. Fondly known as KU. Founded in 1865, it is today a research and teaching university. They have 5 campuses: the Lawrence campus, the Edwards campus in Overland Park and medical branches in Kansas City, Wichita and Salina.

KU is home of the Jayhawk, a mythical bird that originated from 2 birds, the sparrow hawk and the bluejay, that were common around that area.

"Rock Chalk, Jayhawk" is their chant used at sporting events which was first adopted in 1886. "Rock chalk" is a transposition of chalk rock, a type of limestone found on Mount Oread where the Campanile tower stands.

May 17, 2019 was an exciting day in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Proud parents and grandparents were impatiently waiting to board a looooooooooooooooooooooooong flight from KL - Tokyo - Dallas - Kansas City. Main event: Graduation at the University of Kansas (KU) on May 18 and 19.

At Dallas airport. Grandparents were surprisingly active and did not appear tired at all! Still has the spirit to take a selfie!!!
Finally, arrived in Kansas City. It was so good to be together again...all 3 generations of us, women!

 Grandparents ever-ready!

Budig Hall.

It was a rainy day. Gloomy and cold. But, nothing could gloom our happy spirits. Our Nicole was graduating and God has been kind and gracious to grant us all an opportunity to be with Nicole on this important weekend in her life.

We managed to take some family pictures before the ceremony. Lucky we did so as it poured cats and dogs during and after the ceremony.

Mom followed The Graduate into Budig Hall for registration.

May 19, 2019 Sunday
The Campanile located on KU's campus is a WWII memorial on a hill. It houses a huge set of 53 bells called the Carillon that chimes every 15 minutes from 7.00AM to 9.00PM.

It was freezing today! Oh yeah...it may look sunny and smiley to you but oh my goodness, the cold wind went straight into my bones!!! But we were thankful for a sunny (even with so very cold wind!) day as today was a day out in the open. Today never would have been successful and memorable if it had rained for the rain.

We were most excited today because we could not wait to watch the traditional walk through the Campanile.

4000 graduates all ready with their champagne and beer bottles, all prepared to cheer and celebrate throughout their walk down the Hill.
Graduates preparing the final walk down the Hill towards memorial stadium to signify an accomplishment of graduating college. The way is the ceremony. The walk prepares Jayhawks for flight!

The graduating class of 1950 started were the first to walk through the Campanile and the tradition has stuck ever since. Standing at 120 feel tall at an elevation of 993 feet, the Campanile stands proudly on top of Mount Oread.

It was great joy to watch Nicole being one of the Jayhawks who walked through the Campanile. We managed to video her walking in and out, cheered at her, and then we literally ran down the hill to catch the above 2 photos of her walking towards the stadium.

OK...here we go...gotta get a place in THAT crowd!
The 147th Commencement of the University of Kansas was celebrated on Sunday, May 19, 2019, in David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.Nearly 4,000 graduates made the traditional walk down the Hill which started at about 10.30 AM, followed by the program culminating in the conferral of degrees by Chancellor Douglas A. Girod.

Alma Mater (Crimson and the Blue)

Far above the golden valley
Glorious to view,
Stands our noble Alma Mater,
Towering toward the blue.
CHORUS:
Lift the chorus ever onward,
Crimson and the blue
Hail to thee, our Alma Mater,
Hail to old KU.
Far above the distant humming
Of the busy town,
Reared against the dome of heaven,
Looks she proudly down.
(REPEAT CHORUS)
Greet we then our foster mother,
Noble friend so true,
We will ever sing her praises,
Hail to old KU.
(REPEAT CHORUS)
