Historial Timeline of Ole Lukut:

Lukut was still a part of Selangor under the reign of the first Sultan of Selangor, 

In 1815, Chinese miners were already actively mining in this town.

During the reign of the 2nd Sultan of Selangor, a King @ Raja Busu came to Lukut and began his reign there. However, revenue from tin trade was not surrendered to the Sultan of Selangor. Raja Busu encouraged the Chinese from Melaka to work in the tin mines in Lukut.

Raja Busu did not treat the Chinese tin miners well.

The Chinese miners revolted and set fire to Raja Busu's palace which resulted in his death.

In 1846, the Sultan of Selangor appointed Raja Jumaat, a Bugis prince, to rule Lukut.

Raja Jumaat built a fort in Lukut.

Raja Jumaat finally married the Sultan's daughter.

Raja Jumaat's son, Raja Bot, took over the reign after his father died. Lukut fell under his reign due to political instability and violent disturbances.

Lukut fell under the control of Sungai Ujong in 1878 and was in financial ruin. The fort was abandoned. 

Lukut is food haven! Totally love the Bak Kut Teh at Ah Cui's. Other than bak kut teh, this old timer kopitiam also serves pork trotter in vinegar, curry fish, rice wine chicken and vegetables.

A walk to the Lukut Museum

When I saw no one there for a moment, my heart sank. "Not another abandoned museum," I thought. Suddenly a head popped up from behind the counter. The old security guard said in Malay, "Wanna go inside? Sign!" So we did. The museum was quite a surprise. A lil dark but still, it was quite nice walking through the displays.

Ji Gong was born to a wealthy family in the early part of the Southern Song Dynasty. He joined the Buddhist Monastery when he was a young lad. He was a naughty monk who ate meat occasionally, drank wine and dressed in tattered robes. Later, he was known as "Ji, the Crazy Monk."

Despite his craziness, Ji Gong was a kindhearted soul. He loved helping those who were in need and even saved some lives. There are some of his adventures:

1) Summoned logs from a well: Ji Gong used paranormal powers to pull logs out of a well because a temple in Hangzhou was in need of wood.

2) Stopped a flying moutain peak: When Ji Gong realized that a mountain peak was about to come crashing down on a nearby village, he disrupted a wedding procession and snatched the bride, threw her over his shoulder and ran! Pretty soon, the whole village was chasing after them. To make a long story short, Ji Gong saved the villagers.

This trip was way back on 14 & 15 July 2018. It was an amazing 1-night stay. We ate like there was no tomorrow and explored new places to our hearts' content.

First target was the famous Yong Peng duck noodles. Located at 3.4 GERAI MAKAN along Jalan Mah Choo. It was among a humble row of food stalls.

Opposite of duck noodles stall was an equally interesting food stall.

An old-time grocery stall

This is a peanut store named Kacang Permata Krystal located at Jalan Cahaya Baru, Taman BCB, Yong Peng. Yong Peng is famous for its peanut snacks. However I did not like this store as the staff were pushy and they followed us every inch where we walked. Eventually we walked out of the shop!

This shop is situated just behind the above store and they have great peanut products. Store owner was friendly and most importantly, not pushy.

Maxim Snack Shoppe is located at Taman Sembrong Baru, Yong Peng. It is famous for its pau and light snacks for tea time. Great little old-timer shop.

Clayton Ceramics Factory Store is at Bt 57 Jalan Johor, Ayer Hitam. Great factory outlet.

B and S Boutique Hotel, Batu Pahat. Pretty neat hotel. It is located right downtown of Batu Pahat and just right across the market and food stalls.

The Batu Pahat Well at Jalan Minyak Beku, Kampung Minyak Beku. This well was dug by Siamese soldiers, by "chiselling the stones" in search for drinking water in the 15th Century.

In the evening at Batu Pahat. We walked everywhere in search for food and finally decided on this Chinese food court. No regrets. The food was DEEEEEEEEEEEEELICIOUS!

Nobody should miss Chop See Kee's wantan noodles. It is located at Jalan Jenang.

Those who came to takeaway need to queue out by this stall, place their orders and wait. Those who are dining in are welcome to sit down inside the shop!

Yong Peng means Everlasting Peace in the Teochew dialect. It was founded by Boo Koh Lak Loo, a Chinese Teochew settler from Chaozhou in the Guangdong Province, China.

Batu Pahat means Chiselled Stone. It was formerly known as Bandar Penggaram which means Town of Salt-makers. They were famous for their salted fish.
