Roslyn, Washington
This small place was founded because of the discovery of coal in 1886. Roslyn grew steadily with a good population of black miners and immigrants from all over Europe.
We visited Roslyn in a Saturday where its Farmers Market was on. Located right downtown, it was a lovely market to stroll about. People were friendly.
Roslyn is famous because the 1990s TV comedy - drama series ~ Northern Exposure ~ was filmed here. Northern Exposure's storyline was about life in a fictional town named Cicely, Alaska but the real life Cicely was actually Roslyn.
Northern Exposure:
Dr. Joel Fleischman, a New Yorker, came to Alaska to serve as a doctor for 4 years under his student loan contract. He had to adjust to a remote life and gradually got to know the people in that community.
Northwest Improvement Company ( NWIC ) built in 1896 as that served mining families; providing them with food, clothing, furniture and hardware.
Today, it is the Heritage Distilling Company with a club bar and lounge serving spirits flights, cocktails and light food.
