The Lain Lain Project

The Lain Lain Project
GMBB, KL
20 April to 20 October 2024

Lain means embrace in Sanskrit. This project is all about embracing differences through the Lost and Found Ancestral Wisdoms.
Borneo Laboratory, a Kuching based arts and culture collective, aimed to foster unity by the encouragement of celebrating similarities and differences.
This project is a trilogical exhibition ~ about 3 transformative journeys, which includes:

'Serumpun' (symbolizing shared roots and aspirations) ~ 12 Borneo based crafts communities and their artwork, and how committed they are in preserving these fading traditions.

'Big Trip' ~ exploration of the ancestral wisdom and rooted practices that shapes broader global connections across generations ~ stories were collected from different places and ethnic groups, with their unique perspectives but similar practices.

'Lain Lain' ~ after some exploration of the past, we come back to the present! Ongoing dialogues were held with individuals who are actively playing major roles in creating a more inclusive Malaysia.

Borneo Laboratory founder Wendy Teo said, "I hope that visitors to The Lain Lain Project will leave the exhibition more open to accepting one another’s differences, as each of us are different as individuals, and yet as humans, we are the same."

PJ ~ Fallen trees

25 May 2024 Saturday
Storm started about 6pm, just after the BNF parade, just after we got into our grab taxi.

When we passed by UM medical centre, trees had already fallen. Turned left into my road and saw a tree had fallen across the road. Cars were turning back. And it was beginning to flood!

So we had to turn back and turn left into the Jaya One road. Drove to the traffic light, turn left and another tree had fallen across the road.

This is about where Dutch Lady was. We had to turn left cos there’s no other way to go. Came out at Section 17 and decided to go straight into Section 19 where New Ocean World is.

First scene we saw was a car under some trees and a roof! Uh oh!

And more trees had fallen down the road.

This was somewhere around Tasty Chappati row of shops

Turned out to the road leading to the mosque and onwards to my junction before Jaya 33. It was free from fallen trees!!!!
We got home, about an hour later. Thank God.
