Teluk Cempedak

Teluk Cempedak is a famous beach in Kuantan. It is a pretty "happening" beach. Rented our own "seat" for RM10 to chill on the sand while enjoying the waves and breeze. There was a huge crowd but the beach is huge enough that it did not feel too cramped.

There were plenty of food and trinket stalls around and when it got dark, it kinda turned into a night market.

Most interesting part of the beach: A wooden bridge/walkway that connected the main beach to another smaller beach which was less crowded. It was a long walk but it was most scenic. The walkway passed the beach side and giant-sized rocks. People actually climbed over the bridge to sit on the rocks!

And ohhh, whilst we were there, there was a fire-breathing performance by a random performer. He caught the crowd's attention and people were enjoying his performance. I bet he earned good money that evening.

 

Pantai Batu Hitam

 

This is Pantai Batu Hitam @ Black Stone Beach in Kuantan. I was curious how a beach would like in black. From afar, it looked as though there were cow dung all over the beach! As we walked nearer to the stones, they were actually black and shiny. Some believed the stones were from a volcanic eruption. Some believed in a myth whereby a long time ago, a ship sank and the bodies of the crew (sinners) were scattered along the beach which eventually turned into black stones. Nevertheless, this beach is pretty cool for photos and it is just like any other beaches with food stalls and swim stuff.

Kuala Lipis Heritage Museum

Built in 1920 on top of Bius Hill, this was the residence of the State of Pahang back in the olden days. This was also the house where Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was born. He was Malaysia's 6th Prime Minister, from 2009 to 2018. His father Tun Abdul Razak was Malaysia's 2nd Prime Minister from 1970 to 1976. 

Tun Abdul Razak was the Assistant State Secretary of Pahang in the 1950s and thereafter became Pahang's Chief Minister. He was the main person in the drafting of the Razak Report which formed the basis of the Malaysian education system.Tun Abdul Razak was also a key member of the 1956 mission to London to seek independence for Malaya from the British.

Today this 2-storey bungalow stands as a heritage museum, housing artifacts and historical records. It is beautifully maintained and it is a pleasure to get a chance to pay a visit.
