Chinese New Year Lanterns

Ang Pau with the surname Tan

Today was Chinese New Year shopping day for Dad and Mum. So it was Petaling Street that we headed to, as it is most happening around that area. Ohhh I found red packets @ ang pau with my family name on it. Soooooooooooooo cool.

For the life of me, I have never seen so many lanterns. Lanterns here, lanterns there, lanterns everywhere! Many shops and too many lanterns hanging outside and inside. Goodness! Mind you, they were not cheap either. It was joyful to enter into each shop and just looked at the varieties of lanterns. I observed people arguing over which lanterns to buy. I noticed people who couldn't make up their minds. I heard families wanting to share the bulk.  It was quite amusing.

Petaling Street itself was very crowded. Chinese New Year goodies are all out by this time. Uniquely for this year, there are cookies in the form of doggy heads and lotus chips, which really caught my attention.

Chinese New Year for 2018 falls on 16 February. It is the 4715th Chinese Year and according to the Chinese horoscope, 2018 belongs to the Male Earth Dog year known as the Brown Dog Year. It is also believe that the Male Dog is associated with the mountain therefore it is also known as the Mountain Dog year. A mountain dog could be wild!

What does the Earth Dog year have in store for us?

An eventful year, feng shui says, especially when it comes to national security and social conservative movements. It is a year for social change or a lifestyle change. Some of us might experience moments of quietness or loneliness, so it up to you whether you want to make it negative or positive.

However, at the end of the day, you call the shots!
