Pinang Peranakan Mansion

The Baba Nyonya or the  Straits Chinese or the Peranakan Chinese are early immigrants from China. These wealthy Chinese immigrants blended into the local practices and beliefs which resulted in this unique culture.

This Pinang Peranakan Mansion is a museum dedicated to the Penang's Peranakan heritage. This mansion was once the residence of a 19th century Chinese tycoon and a Kapitan Cina named Chung Keng Kwee. He was also a leader of the Hai San, a Chinese secret society. The mansion was once name Hai Kee Chan or Sea Remembrance Hall.

Let's stroll around and catch a glimpse into how the upper-class Straits Chinese might have lived in the olden days.
