Dashilan Beijing
大柵欄 or 大栅栏 (Dashilan or Dashilar Street)
Took me a while to figure how these streets work!
Dashilan Shopping Street dates back to the Ming Dynasty. It was located at the center of ancient Beijing city; about 300 meters long from Qianmen Street to Food Street.
Dashilan means 'big fence' because during the Qing Dynasty, large gates were built at either end of the street to prevent street crime. Today, it is a beautiful pedestrian street with interesting shops on the right and left. No cars are allowed but the trains still run through the street, so watch out!
Interesting snack and biscuit shop
We bought a box to carry back to Shanghai!
Qianmen Street
Choo! Choo!
