Shanghai Old Street by Yuyuan Bazaar & Garden
This used to be the historical Shanghai Old Street, filled with ancient wooden shops selling from silk to souvenirs. When we visited during the Chinese New Year this year, the people here already told us this old street would be dismantled eventually, to make way for modern development. So, last weekend, we walked to Yuyuan and have a look ourselves.
This is how the beautiful old Shanghai street look like now. At least they did not pull down the arch at the entrance. A huge part of the street, left and right, is just a brick wall now. The shops we used to visit are gone now. The rest of the shops nearer to Yuyuan are still around. The "Shanghai Old Street" sign is also gone now. I am so sad.
I feel that this particular street should not be touched, especially when it is right beside a major tourist attraction like Yuyuan. This street exhibited the life of old Shanghai.
