After visiting the Portland Farmers Market at PSU, we took a stroll downtown Portland and oh myyyy, what an interesting town indeed, full of old interesting architecture and rich in history.
First Congregational Church of Portland.
Established in 1851. Bell tower is 175 feet. A Gothic Venetian architecture.
Originally it was the Ladd Carriage House, 1883, to house the Ladd's family horses and carriages. William Ladd was Portland's early entrepreneurs who started selling wine and liquor then ventured into banking, shipping and railroads. He became a major land owner in the Pacific Northwest region.

Theodore Roosevelt Rough Rider

The statue originally looked like the above. It was a bronze sculpture completed in 1922. It depicted Roosevelt as the leader of the cavalry regiment that fought during the Spanish - American War called the Rough Riders. The statue was toppled by rioters in October 2020.
Shemanski Fountain @ Rebecca at the Well
This sandstone fountain was designed in 1925. It was gifted to the city by Joseph Shemanski, a Polish Jewish immigrant. It is sitting in the middle of a small city park in between the Portland Art Museum and the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. The fountain's design is Italianesque trefoil.
The Shemanski Fountain features 2 human drinking platforms and bowl sized pools at the base, created for doggies.
The Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall
One of the last surviving theater venues on Broadway. It was originally the Portland Public Theatre, 1928.
Roosevelt Hotel
Built in 1924. Today it is a 8 storey condominium.
A sculpture named Transcendence ~ A Salmon swimming through a brick building! This 11 foot long, hand - forged sculpture is by American artist Keith Jellum.

Studio Building
Built in 1927 by the Ellison - White Conservatory of Music, along with an attached Guild Theatre. The building featured 128 rehearsal studios for musicians and actors. Pastini Italian restaurant is on the ground floor of this building.
Pioneer District ~ Shopping area
Sentinel Hotel, Portland
East building formerly known as the Seward hotel was built in 1909. Then it was renamed to Governor Hotel in 1931. In 1992, the buildings merged and became the Governor Hotel.

Powell's Bookstore ~ the world's largest independent bookstore
The City of Books has 9 color coded rooms and a cafe. It carries used and new books. This bookstore covers an entire city block; housing over a million books.
This building was founded in 1971 as a car dealership.
The Armory, 1891
Formerly, it was the National Guard Armory Annex to house the Oregon National Guard.
Today it is the Portland Center Stage with 2 theatres.
Portland Korean Church, 1905
It was built as the first German Evangelical Church.
The Old Church, 1882
Originally it was the Calvary Presbyterian Church.
