The beautiful Rumah Tangsi
The mansion of Loke Chow Kit
Started in 1907, this mansion (known as Loke Hall) was first constructed when KL was a tin mining town. Rumah Tangsi (Barracks House) was given that name because the surrounding area were police barracks and armory buildings. Of course, Jalan Tangsi was originally known as Barrack Road in the Colonial days.
1909, Loke Hall was taken over by Empire Hotel.
1919, it became the Peninsular Hotel.
Today, Rumah Tangsi has been gazetted as a National Heritage Building and a darling cafe named Fiftig Seofon sits on the left wing of the building.
Fiftig Seofon is translated to 57; a tribute to 1957.
Reuben my waiter was really nice this morning!
