The Charas Cave or Gua Charas is on the way to Sungai Lembing, at Kampung Panching. Believe it or not, this cave is a 400 million year old limestone and granite cave. It was discovered by a Thai Buddhist monk. It's quite a mesmerizing sight because it stands about 300m tall and 92 hectares wide in the midst of the oil palm trees.
It is a cave of many deities. Every deity has its own corner for people to pray to it.
It is believed that white snakes are the guardians of this cave. If a person catches a glimpse of a white snake, that person will be lucky. When we walked into the entrance, the monk was trying to get me to see the white snake on a rooftop. I was so excited and was yelling "Where, where"? Guess my loud voice scared the snake away :(
This cave is known for its Sleeping Buddha and its 8 feet Shiva Linggam. I did not take pictures of the Lord Shiva because people were praying around it at that time. It looked like a huge black pillar.
The entrance to the cave. The road is bumpy and full of pot holes.
Main entrance. A good climb up the stairs.
Entrance to climb (yup, some more) up to reach the cave.
I thought this was a wishing well. When I peeped down, it was a well of rubbish!
A good climb up to the entrance of the cave. The initial steps are shown in the photo above. The rest of the stairs are metal; somewhat like a scaffolding structure.
Entrance into the Chavas Cave. Slippery as water sipped through the ceiling.
This cave is under construction. I believe after everything is done up, the interior would be super amazing. It is amazing already when we were there. Authentic.
Visitors are free to roam around the cave and visit the deities.
Sleeping Buddha. Length of 40m. The main attraction is this cave.
This is another entrance to another deity
A different deity
Walking out of the cave. Challenging climb.
Out of the cave and another long climb down the hill. Let's take a breather first!!!
