Sitiawan - Kampung Koh KOKI Chilli Factory

Kampung Koh KOKI Chilli Sauce Factory

Took me a while to search for this place but I was glad we found it. My heart sank when we reached the factory as it appeared to be closed. However, the front door was slightly opened so we went in to ask if we could have a brief visit. Ms Ku warmly invited us in. She explained that the production was done for the day but she was most willing to explain the production process to us. Wow! Yes, please!

Ku Sok Han started this chilli sauce business in 1983 and it has maintained as a family-owned business until today. The Ku family has shown sheer commitment and dedication in producing a variety of top quality chilli sauces and other products, such as red wine, spicy crispy dried shrimp, ginseng enzyme, and garlic flakes for cooking. I bet they will come up with new products as time goes on!
The signboard helped out a lot!

The second I stepped into the factory, the fragrance of the garlicky chilli sauce was astounding. I was blown away! Sooooooo nice smellll....mmmmmmm! Imagine, production was over for the day and I can still smell the chilli sauce. I should come by when production is going on, bet I would wanna get free tastes here and there!!! LOL

KOKI helps to sell products from other businesses around Kampung Koh too!
There's the all-ready-to-cook mee sua from a restaurant and packets of homemade mee sua noodles to cook to your own liking.

The dried chillies come from China and India. They are refrigerated to preserve their quality.

The dried chillies still needed to be manually filtered in order to maintain the production of good quality chilli sauce.

All ready to go into the mixer!

Clean beautiful bottles ready to be sterilized

Sterilization takes place in these metal drums

See the big drums? These are chilli mixers. The big one behind produces chilli sauce for 10 000 bottles. The smaller one in front produces for up to 3000 bottles. Amazing!

Then...the bottles get capped and sealed tightly.

Ms Ku patiently explaining the process to us. Such dedication!

All ready to be exported!

They even produce chilli sauce packets!

This batch will go off to Penang soon!
These bottles did not pass quality inspection! Labels were not properly stuck on so the bottles need to go back into the labeling section.

KOKI's humble factory

We may have missed the chilli sauce production in the KOKI factory but chatting with Ms Ku and spending time with her, we were appreciative of what we had learnt. Most of all, we are so proud that this is a Malaysian product. We learnt that KOKI chilli sauce is made with all natural ingredients and there is no coloring in the sauce. The bright red color comes directly from the dried chillies.
Cheers to the Ku family!
