Sitiawan - Kampung Acheh - Mr Honey Bees Farm

Hi there! We are at Mr Honey Bees Farm in Kampung Acheh, Sitiawan. We were here on a Saturday to explore and came back the next day to experience the process of extracting the honeycombs to the bottling of honey. We had so much fun at the farm!

Do you know what is honey?
It is a sweet syrup produced by honey bees from the nectar of flowers. Honey is comprised of 20% water and 80% glucose, fructose, pollen, wax and mineral salts. Its composition and color depends on the flower that supplies the nectar.
Honey was considered the food of the gods, and the symbol of wealth and happiness.

Beekeeping is one of the oldest forms of animal husbandry.

Had a brief session with a bee expert. Made friends with the bees! LOLOLOLOL

See the bee with the fatter body and the wings seemed too small for it? That's the Queen Bee!

The white dots are honey deposited into the honeycomb cells!

Bee Pollen

Be cautious when taking Bee Pollen, it is not suitable for everybody!

It has its side effects. I read that some people will develop allergic reactions to bee pollen; reactions such as itching, swelling, shortness of breath, light headedness and anaphylaxis (whole body). Most importantly, it is not suitable for pregnant ladies and mothers who are breastfeeding.

SUNDAY

Getting ready to retrieve honeycombs from these beehives
In each hive, there is a Queen Bee (at the bottom box) and worker bees. Each worker bee will collect nectar and returns to the hive. The nectar will be deposited into empty honeycomb cells. Other worker bees will ingest the honey, adding more enzymes and ripen the honey. When the honey is fully ripened, it is deposited into the honeycomb cells one last time and capped with a layer of beewax.
A puff of smoke will be injected into the hive before the honeycombs are removed. Bees are less likely to sting as they have been somewhat tranquilized by the smoke.

Brushing bees off the honeycombs

One frame is about 2.5 Kg and it can be as heavy as 5 Kg!

The bees are natural artists themselves. Such perfect work!

Honeycombs are in the transport box

Scraping off the caps from both sides of the honeycomb

We got to taste the honey off the caps. Lovely!
