Second visit to Zhujiajou Ancient Town and to my surprise, The Great Qing Post Office is open! Awesome cos I was itching to enter the last time I was here. Just love historical places.
Started in 1903, this post office was one of the 13 major post offices in Shanghai in the olden days.
"In 1896, the Qing government established the Qing Imperial Post which marked the beginning of modern postal service in China. In 1903, a branch office of the Imperial Post was established here in Zhujiajiao, making it the earliest post office in this region."
"In the end of 19th century, the establishment of official post office of the Qing Dynasty had epoch-making significance in modern history of China Post. Some of the Qing Dynasty official postal items on display are the historical evidence of postal culture during that period."
