The Gilded Age is a historical era from about 1870s to 1890s in America; a later Victorian era in Britain. The Gilded Age in America was influenced by British trends then.
Mark Twain called the late 19th century the Gilded Age where he meant that the glitter on the surface enveloped the corrupt.
