Kek Lok Si Temple on Crane Hill, Penang
The last time we visited this temple was in 2017 where some work was still being done around the giant Kuan Yin’s pavilion. Nevertheless, work is still going on around the temple for maintenance. Fires, unfortunately, broke out in years 2021 and 2022. One of the prayer halls caught fire in 2021 and a minor fire happened next to the giant Kuan Yin statue. The temple is still in very good shape today.
This time around, we parked at the foothill parking lot, determined to walk up to the Kuan Yun pavilion.
And we did!
There is actually a lift or somewhat like an electric tram that helps visitors to reach to the top without climbing. However, the person who was in charge when we were there was just plain rude. Not an ounce of customer service in him!

Buddha Pavilion
The Bronze Statue of Kuan Yin Bodhisattva, the Goddess of Mercy. It stands above the temple. It was completed in 2002 and its protective octagonal-shaped pavilion was completed in early 2010. The statue is made entirely of bronze and is over 120 feet high. The pavilion is constructed of 16 dragon pillars that are 200 feet high all covered by an exquisitely designed 3 tier pagoda roof.
