Shanghai - Chuansha

The Ancient Town of Chuansha, the root of Pudong culture

Line 2 to Chuansha and took Exit 1. This was the view once out of the Chuansha metro station.  It was almost an hour's metro ride from Pudong and believe it or not, our destination was Pudong New Area!

There's a map and a long list of historical attractions to visit. When I first read about Chuansha, I only read about an ancient wall and a park in this little town. There were so much more to this little old ancient town of Chuansha. Apparently, Chuansha was the first town in Pudong.

It was a different feeling when we arrived at Chuansha. There is nostalgia in the air. Felt like there was deep historical or cultural events that started here. It is nothing like industrial Pudong. Chuansha felt sleepy, deep in history and delicious! You would never get hungry here.

When I saw this list, the first thing I thought was, "We need 3 days here!"

Neishidi was the former residences of some famous people in Chuansha. It sits just beside the Chuansha Ancient Town.

The Neishidi originally belonged to a Shen family. In the 19th year of Xianfeng, Shen Shuyong became one of the Cabinet of the Qing Dynasty. His descendants inherited this ancestral property.

The South Wing of Shidi is the birthplace of the 3 famous Soong sisters.

The East Wing of Shidi is the birthplace of Huang Yanpei, an educator and a founder of the school in Chuansha.

The entrance to Chuansha Ancient Town. It consists of 2 ancient streets, namely Nanshi Street and Zhongshi Street. The walking pathways are original, traditional style of Jiangnan, from the late Qing Dynasty.
