Alexander Pushkin was a Romantic era Russian poet, novelist, dramatist and short-story writer.  He is known as the founder of modern Russian literature.



Dante Alighieri was a Italian poet, prose writer, literary theorist, moral philosopher and political thinker. He is best known for the monumental epic poem La Commedia @ The Divine Comedy.



Victor-Marie Hugo was a French poet, playwright, novelist and dramatist of the Romantic movement. Famous for writing Les Miserables and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.



Maxim Gorky was a Russian and Soviet writer, a founder of the socialist realism literary method and a political activist. 



Honore de Balzac was a French novelist and playwright. He was one of the founders of realism in European literature.



Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was a German poet, playwright, novelist, scientist, statesman, theatre director and artist.




William Shakespeare was an English playwright, poet and actor. England's National Poet. Most famous playwright in the world! Shakespeare wrote 37 plays, 2 volumes of poetry, and over 150 sonnets.




Charles Dickens was a English writer, journalist, editor, illustrator, and social critic. Some of his beloved classic novels were Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, Great Expectations, and A Tale of Two Cities.





Leo Tolstoy was a Russian writer and is regarded as one of the greatest authors of all time. Some of his masterpieces were Anna Karenina and War & Peace.


Rabindranath Tagore was a Bengali poet, writer, composer, philosopher, social reformer and painter. He reshaped Bengali literature, music and Indian art with Contextual Modernism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The government relocated Lu Xun's tomb from Wanguo Cemetery in Hongqiao to the park in 1956, on the 20th anniversary of his death.
Mao Zedong inscribed 'The Tomb of Mr. Lu Xun' on the large granite tombstone. Two pine trees were planted on either side of the tomb.

Musicians came together and played songs for all to enjoy. I was most fascinated with the man on the left. I have never seen such a huge electric harmonica in my life, until this day!
