Presidential Palace, Nanjing
This is the Gate Tower of the Presidential Palace; was known as Zhen ShenRong Guang Men (Genius Gate). The gate was demolished in 1864 and was rebuilt in 1929.
The Presidential Palace originated in the Ming Dynasty as a royal residence. In 1911, Sun Yat Sen took his oath of office here as the President of the Republic of China. This palace was a place to host official events.

The Stone Boat or Buxi Zhou, was built in 1746, in the reign of Qing Emperor Qianlong.
It is the oldest part of the Presidential Palace compound.
The Attic of Joy or the Waterside Pavillion, rebuilt in 1870, sits on the east lakeside of the garden. The Attic once served as one of the offices of the Military Affairs Commission.

"These buildings used to be stables in the Liangjiang Viceroy's official residence, the Heavenly Dynasty Palace and the Provisional President's Office. They became storehouses and the places where the Communications Team, the Military Band, the Guard Detachment, and the Cleanup Crew located during the Nationalist and the Presidential Governments."
