Beishan Rock Carvings
Created in 892 A.D. It exhibits the Chinese folk belief in Buddhism and the evolution of cave temple art from late 9th century.
Listed in the U ESCO World Heritage site but a lot of the sculptures have been partly destroyed or eroded.
The sculptures are all under a roof as donations are coming in to continuously protect them.
This was after lunch so it was a sigh of frustration LOL because of a heavy tummy!!!
Hariti was a female ogre who ate children!
Maricideva has 3 heads and 8 arms!
See this little boy?
He is 4 years old. He came over to me and started explaining about Maricideva to me. That the statues on the side of the wall protects her!
I was so impressed with him. A little mind but already so rich in historical knowledge.
His father came over and explained that his son goes to a kindy nearby and during his breaktime he would come over to the caves to read the story boards.
WOW!!!
