Cotton tree or Kapok Tree

This is a silk cotton tree.  It is also known as Pokok Kapok @ Kapok tree.

I found this particular cotton tree in Tuaran, Sabah.  It was standing tall by the roadside.  The cotton was so cute-looking that I had to stop and take some pictures of it.

Apparently, this cotton tree has some great uses; its wood is good for carvings, making coffins and canoes.  The silky fibers that protrude from the seeds make great stuffing for bedding, mattresses and toys. Soaps and lubricants can be made from the oil in the seeds.
Some locals believed this tree has medicinal values.
