The Happy 8 Retreat is situated right in the middle of a lil fishing village named Kuala Sepetang, formerly known as Port Weld. With that giant eagle on its roof, it is easily noticeable from afar. It being a completely wooden structure, it is unique in its own style, especially when the murals inside this lodging are colorful and attractive on all walls, doors and rooms.
I loved its location by the Sepetang River. I loved watching the fishermen working in the boats and early in the morning, I could hear soft rumbling of the boats going to sea. The boats did not bother me at all.
What bothered me during my one night's stay in Happy 8 was the inconsiderateness of other visitors who were staying there as well. Being a wooden building, it only takes a little bit of common sense that rooms do not have sound proof.
We had a gorilla living above our room who stomped around past midnight; I thought our ceiling was going to fall through. We had to bear with children screaming and running, obviously, these little humans belonged to parents who could not care less of others and/or did not believe in discipline.
Nevertheless, the friendliness of the staff at the counter at Happy 8 was admirable. They even packed our breakfast for us.
