The birthplace of the Communist Party of China
The 1st National Congress of the CPC was held in Shanghai and Jiaxing in 1921. This congress established the Communist Party of China.
This is an old-style Shikumen residential building with brick-wood structure. A visitor would enter first into a memorial hall whereby there are displays of historical background of the establishment of the CPC and the significant people involved. This museum started in 1961, 12 years after the CPC vanquished the Kuomintang and established the People's Republic of China.
The Bund, 1920s
In February 1920, to avoid the Northern Warlords government's persecution, Chen Duxiu migrated to Shanghai from Beijing secretly, with the help of Li Dazhao. This was the moment they started planning to establish a communist organization.
Significant participants of the National Congress
Mao Zedong joined 12 other leaders to lay out communist plans to revitalize a nation that continued to struggle after the fall of Qing Dynasty in 1911.
This is the site of the First National Congress of CPC which proclaimed the founding of the Communist Party of China.13 delegates from CPC's early organizations and 2 representatives of Communist International attended the congress.
