Shanghai Science and Technology Museum - AP Plaza

Shanghai Science & Technology Museum
Located at Century Avenue, Pudong
Themes of the museum were nature, mankind, science and technology

We actually went to Century Avenue mainly to visit the A.P Plaza YinYang Market which is situated right across to the museum. It is Pudong's biggest "Fake Market"!!! So in all honesty, I was in no mood for science and technology. I wanted to window-show! However, as the weather was superb, I could not help but to walk around and we ended up visited a bit of the museum. Maybe one day we will come back to really enjoy its 4 floors of exhibitions and 3D theaters. Today, it was brief visit.

A.P Plaza was a sad visit. Although I am not into fake products but it would be good to see the mall running in full power. Nope. It was lifeless. 60% of the shops were closed. On a Sunday? Not sure if they were closed on this day only or permanently. The scary part of this mall is when you step into it, shop vendors would come to you in full attack! One after another. I was ready to run away after an extremely persistent 3rd lady. Goodness. They must be so hungry for business that they pounce on the people, with no mercy!

Love the space

The Armillary Sphere

An invaluable relic of ancient Chinese culture and science, is a large outdoor bronze apparatus with a beautiful shape, grand contour, well knit structure, fine cast and exquisite engraving. It represents the quintessence of highly developed science and art in ancient China and exerts great influence through all times and around the world. It is a tool to make the orientation of horizon, equator and ecliptic coordinates of celestial bodies such as stars, the sun, the moon and planets, and serves as a chronometer to tell years, solar terms, days and hours. It's a symbol of the ancient Chinese scientific and technological civilization and a rare science and art treasure in the developing history of human being.
(Plaque below)

Basically this sphere is a mathematical instrument that extends back to the ancients, designed to demonstrate the movement of the celestial sphere about a stationary Earth at its centre.
