There are other cute names for this fruit. Some call it Titty Fruit, Cow's Udder, Fox Head and Apple of Sodom!!! A relative to the tomato and potato families.
Get this... the fruit is poisonous BUT it can be cooked like a vegetable when it is unripe.
Native to South America but it has become naturalized in tropical regions. I was actually attracted to its leaves. Look! Large. Velvety. But look at those thorns!!! These leaves can be prepared as tea.
There is a long list of medicinal uses for this fruit and its leaves. Among some are:
The fruit helps with the treatment of scabies.
The mixture of fruit, roots and leaves is used to treat skin problems and sores.
The decoction of leaves is used to treat stomach problems, athlete's foot and sore eyes.
The seeds are used to aid colds.
The roots boiled with grain porridge and sour milk helps to cure syphilis.
