The Great Wall of China, at Mutianyu

The Mutianyu Great Wall was first built in Northern Qi Dynasty in the 6th century. It is located in Huairou District, Beijing, about 70km from downtown Beijing. It took about 1.5 hrs drive from our hotel at the Beijing central business district.

This wall is connected with Jiankou in the west and Lianhuachi & Jinshanling in the east. It was extended and restored during early Ming Dynasty.

In 1569, it was rebuilt with granite to strengthen its defensive potential.

The latest restoration was done from 1982 to 1986 as a national tourist attraction.

Total length is 3.4 miles (5400 meters)

This spot is at the 14th Watch Tower. The cable car stops here. It is actually the middle spot of the great wall. It is your choice on how you want to explore the wall. We chose to walk to the left which covers 14th until the 20th Watch Tower.

Bye Bye Great Wall, it was an honor to have visited you!
