Fuzhou Road Cultural Street
Known as the First Street of Chinese Culture.
We started exploring Fuzhou Road from the Raffles City Mall. This historical road is one of the earliest roads opened by the old concession. It is one of the four original dirt roads leading to the Huangpu River. At 1453 meters long, one can actually walk all the way to the Bund. We walked a good distance but as it was drizzling, we turned back. We will attempt again one sunny day!
In 1846, bookstores founded by the Chinese started mushrooming along this cultural road. Apparently, there were about 30 bookstores once upon a time along this road.
