Batang Kali

Batang Kali is a little town well known for the massacre of 24 villagers shot down by British soldiers in 1948, during the Emergency Rule. During this Emergency Rule, Chinese were rounded up into new villages as they were suspected of being sympathetic to the Malayan Communist Party (MCP). British troops entered a plantation village in Batang Kali on December 11, 1948 to question the rubber tappers about MCP. The following day, the British loaded women and children into trucks and shot dead 24 men. It was not until 1970 when some soldiers came forward and told the British media about their guilt in killing innocent civilians. Thus, the fight for justice began.
Fabulous yam noodles
Ken Kee restaurant has glorious food. A salute to the cook who is the grandson-in-law of the founder, who decided to carry on the family business. We had a chat with the granddaughter so is running the business today. Lovely lady. She told us about how her dad started off before Independence Day, cooking Hokkien noodles. Today some of their specialty dishes are Yam Noodles, Homemade Noodles, and Salted Egg Tofu. They also have some unique dishes to eat with plain white rice. Oooooh gotta go back soon!
Ken Kee's wall of fame. Some famous food reviewers have visited their humble restaurant. They have visitors coming from Singapore and Taiwan, other than the local Malaysians.

Salted egg chicken

Fu Quan Miao Temple. Quite an impressive temple as it can be seen as you pass by the entrance of Batang Kali on the right, coming from Serendah. It sits proudly on a hill, at the back of residences. Driving up can be quite a challenge as the roads are really narrow, actually only fitting one and a half cars!
The temple garden. I was amused cos I saw old faded lanterns hanging from the trees!!!
The lil town of Batang Kali

At the back of the temple
A beautiful HOT HOT HOT day

Batang Kali's specialties: Rice crackers.
Tallest bridge in Malaysia
The Rawang Bypass is Malaysia's tallest highway. Standing tall at 58.2 meters or 190 feet, it is a real thrill to drive using this highway. I especially love watching the top of the trees as I passed them. Feels like I am on top of the world.
