Kuala Pilah

Itik Salai in Kuala Pilah

Smoked duck marinated with spices that burns slowly for 5 whole hours and they have got to be smoked a distance away from the fire. How about that? This time around, I insisted that we stopped by the roadside to take more photos of the  hot smoking sexy ducks. The last time we visited Kuala Pilah was a good 2 years ago. This time, I noticed there were more stalls AND they not only have smoked ducks, beef, fish and chicken, they had SMOKED RABBITS too!

Smoking, in the olden days, to preserve meat as there was no refrigerators. Some of these people in Kuala Pilah have been selling smoked meat for almost 50 years. These smoked meat are best cooked in coconut milk and hot chillies (masak lemak cili api).

These photos were taken in a village named Terachi in Kuala Pilah. There are rows and rows of interesting smoked meat stalls on both sides of the Seremban-Kuala Pilah road, and of course other goodies as well.
