MBI Desaku Kulim

MBI Desaku was a huge surprise to us when we visited Kulim last weekend.  Yes, I read about it in Google but seeing it for oneself was so much different. I actually thought that this place was a huge park and the residences were located at a private area. Nope! This 248 acre actually has private residences and homestays all over the place in addition to 5 gardens and an Agrofarm located amidst the residences.

This place is mainly featured as a place to visit after sundown as it is a wonderland of lights.

I read somewhere that there are 5 gardens in this area, I only managed to find 2 which were the Bali themed garden and the Chinese themed garden. I drove by the Agrofarm which is another huge project. There was another project near to the Agrofarm that looked like a half-done roller coaster.

The Bali themed garden was nicely maintained and it felt serene walking around it. The Chinese one however was in bad shape. The animal structures made with paper had holes in them and colors had faded.

The rows of restaurants and cafe are huge. In between the rows of fine restaurants, there's a huge tent filled with food stalls and small boutiques named Exotic Townscapes. When we were there. all restaurants were still closed but some food stalls were opened for business.

I drove around the area to look at the homestays. They are colorful little detached houses. Drove around more to see the residences and most of them looked abandoned.  Some of them have weeds growing in their gardens. Apparently this MBI project was completed in 2016 but it did not appear that the houses were occupied.  Hmmm, honestly if I had bought a house there, I would be pissed off with visitors coming in and out of our residential area because of the gardens there. No privacy at all as the gardens are opened to the public.

I must say we enjoyed driving around this huge area. There are plenty of spots excellent for photography. We just kept on shaking our heads in amazement; how can this giant project survive in KULIM? Who comes to this place? Who eats in these luxurious looking restaurants?

This is the area where the restaurants are situated. There are 2 long rows with an interesting array of choices.

Look at this Chinese restaurant!

The Golden Kingdom Restaurant looked so grand and huge. It reminded me of the Floating restaurant in Hong Kong. Again, such a massive establishment. Who comes here to eat?

And of course, irresponsible visitors are everywhere!

It would be good to come back for another visit when the whole park is opened for business. If an opportunity arises, we must make time to stay until after the sun sets to enjoy the wonderland of lights.
