Holland Village @ Gaoqiao New Town
It was really dreamy to catch the first glimpse of Holland Village from across the river.
Holland Village. A replica Dutch Town.
Located in Pudong, north of Shanghai - the Waigaqiao Free Trade Zone, North Station.
Holland Village was another of Shanghai's foreign towns which was built for the One City, Nine Towns project in 2001. Architects from the Netherlands were called in to develop Holland Village.
Looking for this village was quite a challenge. When we got out of the metro station, we found that we had to walk passed the Gaoqiao Old Town in order to reach Holland Village. It was a good 20-30 minute walk as Gaoqiao Old Town was a very interesting place as well.
This Dutch town is a very quiet place. Unlike Thames Town (British village), this town looked quite abandoned. However, there are small businesses running. There are restaurants and small shops around the area. The architecture looked marvelous. I was just very disappointed that we could not go into the church. Main gate was locked.
It was a good experience to visit this Dutch town.
Errrrr.....ermmmmm....what are porky skins hanging here???
What an eye sore!
A beautiful park
