Shanghai - Luodian Old Town

Walking from Sweden Town @ Luodian New Town towards the Old Town

A sudden change in scenery.
This is a long road with mostly steel and electrical shops on both sides of the road.

Luodian Ancient Town  罗店古镇  (Luō diàn gǔzhèn)

Luodian Old Street 罗店老街  (Luō diàn lǎo jiē)

After about 20 - 30 minutes walk, we finally saw the entrance to Luodian Old Town. We actually stopped by a pharmacy to get some stuff and were lucky to have a chat with a friendly pharmacist. He told us that this town is reaaaaaaaaaaally old and not fancy at all. I guess he was worried that we had high expectations. We assured him that it is alright as we love exploring new places, old or new, to learn more about China. And he was right!

The first settlers of Luodian Old Town were during the Yuan Dynasty (1271 - 1368). This is a small town with a canal that runs through the town. The shops are still very traditional in style. People are still living at the back of the shops or on the first floor while running their small businesses.
