Jiangnan First Teahouse in Xinchang Ancient Town
Built at the end of Qing Dynasty - 1644 to 1911 AD. It is a well preserved 3-storey wooden structure by the river. It looked like a museum cafe. Visitors were only allowed to dine on the ground floor; top 2 floors were closed.
"No 1 Teahouse. It was first built as a bungalow during the years of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty and rebuilt as a 3-storey building during the reign of Emperor Xuantong. In the early 1930s it served for art performance. No 1 Teahouse was, as understood literally, the highest building and the most thriving place in Xinchang. Its name also stems from here. In May 2002, the site was listed as the district level relic protection unit."
