Humble Administrator's Garden - Suzhou

Humble Administrator's Garden 拙政园 (Zhuo Zheng Yuan)

The Classical Gardens of Suzhou

A UNESCO Heritage Site and the largest classical garden in Suzhou, from the Ming Dynasty, 1509.

This 13.8-acre garden was originally a private garden of a former government servant named Wang Xianchen.  It took him 16 years to build this beautiful landscape for his retirement. The whole garden is water-centered, with small hills, pavilions by the lakes, flowers and trees.  This garden reflects the characteristics of a water town south of the Yangtze River.

Every spring from March to May, there's a Rhododendron festival here. Then in the summer, from May to October, this garden will present its Lotus festival.

At the entrance of the garden

Tree drips are used whereby nutrients are directly delivered into the roots.  The old trees here are very well-protected. I have never seen a tree drip before until I visited this garden!
