Zhujiajiao - Kezhi Garden

Kezhi Garden

Commonly known as the Ma Family Garden, it was built in 1912.  It took Ma Wenging 15 years to build this garden. It is a combination of Chinese and Western architecture. Entrance fee is 20 Yuan.

People who come to Zhujiajiao Water Town will visit this garden as it is listed as one of the main attractions here. This garden is serene and it is rather huge for a family garden. Loved the walk ways over the water though.

We did not have a pleasant experience with the people here. Apparently there was a performance or show or some party in a section of this garden last Saturday evening. We were sitting on the ground and chatting, just taking a breather, when we were rudely interrupted. A girl asked us to leave because they were preparing for some performance. Performance was at 5pm. She shooed us off at 2.30pm. Then after, signs were put up to block that particular area. Goodness, they should have put up those do-not-enter signs from DAWN!

Rear Parlor (Hall Tower)

General Ma Yuan of the Han Dynasty is the ancestor of the Ma family. Ma Wenging uses his favorite quote, "Always learning from virtuous people", to educate his descendants.

Embroidery Room
This was where Ma Wenging's daughters did their needlework.

Kezhi Garden showcases Ann Yen's paintings. Ann was an actress in China before going to New York to obtain her degree in filmmaking. She was a producer for National Geographic and Discovery Channel. Ann's art work is a combination of Eastern and Western culture.

The Wangyue Tower is also known as the Guanyunzhiyue Tower. Its name means that this tower takes a cloud as a crown and sincerely joins hands with the moon. Very poetic!

Kezhi Bridge. Smallest stone arched bridge in Zhujiajiao town!

Baifu Pavillion

This impressive library is also known as Book Mall
