Akershus Castle & Fortress

From the Munch Museum, we walked to Akershus Fortress.

Oslo Opera House

Akershus Fortress & Castle

We walked the grounds on our first day there. The museums are closed for the winter but you are most welcome to wander around. It was getting dark when we reached Akershus. Walking around the fortress felt like it was a Halloween movie scene coming alive 🤣 Spooky trails. Scary dead-looking trees everywhere.  Birds whispering to each other in flocks. I was expecting Freddy, Jason or Michael to suddenly appear from a dungeon too 😂
Great experience to see a haunted-looking fortress by dusk. However, there’s a great view of Oslo from the hill we were at.
(Bear in mind, these photos were taken at around 3-4pm in the afternoon

A little bit of history:

A Medieval Fortress, built in 1299 in Oslo, to ward off invading barbarians. It also served as the King’s residence and administration. The fortress first saw battle in 1308; Swedish took the throne. Then, Nazi forces took over in 1940. It was a prison during WWII and an execution place.

The Castle is the current office of the Prime Minister of Norway.

Within its walls sits the Norwegian Armed Forces Museum and Norway’s Resistance Museum:
The Armed Forces Museum exhibits artefacts of the Norwegian Military history from the Viking Age to the 21st century.
The Resistance Museum documents Norway’s domestic WWII history from 1940-1945.

I think this is the office of the Prime Minister of Norway.

The Fortress

The entrance to the fortress. I loved it! Looked so mysterious, like entering a scene from a Halloween movie!

Was expecting the trees to start talking!

Creeeeeeeeekkkkkk!

WOWWWWW

Thought I could go upstairs. No luck. Door was locked.

Doesn’t this part look spooky?

Beautiful Oslo

Icyyyyy! If I slide down, it would not be a nice scene at all.

Yikes! More ice

Looking back

Birds whispering!

Resistance Museum

Walked to Gamle Raadhus for dinner. This was just before 5PM.
