We witness the spectacular Aurora Borealis in Tromso.
We had our first tour on the 4th but it was unsuccessful. We had to be out in the cold weather for 7 hours waiting but nothing appeared in the sky that night. It was frustrating and sad and we felt hopeless and kept thinking, would we get to see it. Flying to Tromso was a long painful flight.
Got all negativity out if our minds and we tried again the next day. It turned out to be a VERY surprising night. Our tour guide Filipo was a happy and funny guide. He took us to his usual spot and by the time we came down from the bus, he said to me “Do you see it”?
Where???
Right there! He pointed to me faint shades of green in the sky. He taught me to spot them and said “Look at the sky with your camera”. True enough. There it was. It was faint at first then it started spreading and grew richer in color and constantly changing in designs. I was in awe. I had forgotten about the cold. Just stood and stare.
WOW!!!
Then, Filipo decided to take us to another spot to watch the Aurora. I didn’t take many photos here because I was so cold and I was satisfied with the first batch of photos. In order to take different shots, you have to wait for the lights to change…. in the freezing cold!
The biggest and most wonderful surprise for us was the Aurora was still shining for us when we returned to where we stayed; at the Tromso Lodge & Camping grounds. The lights were dancing just about our cabin.
What an amazing welcome home!
This bucket list was the most challenging one for us to achieve. First, we had to endure 26 hours of flying and waiting time. The hunt for the lights were excruciatingly painful in the freezing cold weather. There were no guarantees as it was Nature we were dealing with and that was the most frightening one of all.
We were very very very lucky!
