Bình Tây Market
Chợ Bình Tây
Chinatown, District 6
Constructed some time in the 1880s by the French.
This market, I like very much. There are 2 floors for you to explore and the sellers are less aggressive. No tugging. No touching. Just calling to buy. We actually walked through each pathway in peace.
I read in its reviews that this market caters more for bulk shopping. Yes, it is obvious by their packaging. However, not sure if we were lucky that day, nobody chased us away for buying in small amounts.
Outside and around this market, there are more sellers selling things like seafood, fresh produce, fruits and food. Plenty to explore and shop.
The only thing that was inconvenient for us was the 20 min drive from District 1.
Originally, there was a statue of the founder of Binh Tay Market named Quach Dam standing in the middle of the market, surrounded by lion and dragon statues. His statue was apparently moved to Fine Arts Museum in District 1. People still come here to pray for their business to prosper.
