The talk started off with a UM Senior lecturer explaining about the joined venture between UM and Taiwan’s ‘ministry’ for the Hakka community.
Continued by an author & historian who explained a little bit about Kuala Lumpur’s birth and Yap Ah Loy’s contribution to the building Kuala Lumpur.

Explanation about Yap Ah Loy’s “datukship” in those times. He received the Seri Indera Perkasa Wijaya Bakti. His stamp proved it in Chinese and Arabic too.

The 5th & 6th generation descendents of Yap Ah Loy. First 3 from the left are the 5th generation descendents and young girl in white on the right is the 6th generation descendent.
Yap Ah Loy was born in 1837 in Huizhou, China. He contributed greatly to the development of Kuala Lumpur as a commercial hub and a mining centre.

Interesting to know how they found each other through FB and via their fathers. Great to know that their family tree is done up and that they are still meeting relatives from all over the world.
