Paris

'A walk about Paris will provide lessons in history, beauty, and in the point of Life'  (Thomas Jefferson)

We stayed in Hotel Bellevue which was located at the bottom of Sacré-Cœur, in Montmartre. It is a small hotel but at a very convenient location nearby to shops, markets, restaurants and some popular attractions.

View from our room

Breakfast is simple with croissants and pastries.

Le Saint Regis is just near our hotel. We decided to have our dinner there on evening as they offer Parisian classics.

Avenue des Champs-Élysées

Place Vendôme

This square, built in 1686, is the emblem of French luxury. The Ritz hotel, Cartier, Rolex, Chanel jewellery - all these prestigious establishments are situated in this square.
Colonne Vendôme

The Victory Column stands 44 metres high and was dedicated to the soldiers of the battle of Austerlitz. It was cast in bronze from 1200 cannons seized from the Russian and Austrian armies.

The Hyatt

The  Palais Garnier or Opéra Garnier is a 1979-seat opera house in Paris.  It is a 19th century architectural masterpiece and is home to the Paris ballet.

Petit Palais houses the City of Paris Museum of Fine Arts.
La Madeleine is a Catholic church in honor of St Mary Magdalene (1806). It sure looks like a Roman temple!
Grand Palais is a museum, exhibition hall and an historic site.
Les Invalides or The Dome or Tomb of Napolean

The Museum of the Army was first built in 1905 as a hospital and a home for disabled soldiers. It now houses the Tomb of Napolean and the museum of the Army of France.
Napolean's tomb is located in the Dome Church. It is part of the Museum of the Army at Invalides. The Dome stands 101 metres high.

Pont de I'Alma tunnel

The Basilique du Sacré-Coeur de Montmartre
This Sacred Heart Basilica of Montmartre was consecrated in 1919 in Roman Byzantine style and sits on the highest hill in Paris.

Beautiful view from the church

Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile

The Arch honors those who have who fought and died for France in the French Revolution and Napoleanic Wars. The names of all French victories and generals are inscribed on its inner and outer surfaces. Beneath the arch lies a tomb of an unknown soldier from WWI.
This Arch of Victory was completed in 1836 and is 50 metres high and 45 metres wide.
