Welcome to the Fontana di Trevi or Trevi Fountain.
It is located in the Trevi district of Rome. It was built at the junction of 3 roads (tre vie), in 19 BC, thus giving Trevi Fountain its name.
Trevi Fountain is one of the oldest water sources in Rome. It dates back to the Roman times where it provided water to the Roman baths and the fountains in central Rome.
It is mostly built from travertine stone, a mineral formed from hot springs in the city of Tivoli.
Trevi Fountain is 85 feet tall and 65 feet wide.
The statue in the centre of the fountain is the Greek Sea God, Oceanus. He is accompanied by sea-horses and Tritons (half men half mermen). The horses portrayed as one wild and one passive, symbolizing the changing moods of the ocean.
The building behind Trevi Fountain is Palazzo Poli, It houses the National Institute of Graphic Art.
It is simply breathtaking seeing the Trevi Fountain up close. The carvings on the stone are a remarkable work of art.
