Yiyang Sea & Golden Waterfall

It was a gloomy day when we decided to travel to visit Jiufen. On the way, we dropped by the Yiyang Sea and the Golden Waterfall at Riufang district.

Yi Yang Sea or at times, is known as Yin Yang Sea. It is a bay whereby the sea is a mixture of orangey and blue. Not at all noticeable in my photos as it was raining. I believe the colors would be clearer under the sun. The locals believed that the orangey part of the bay may be the result of insoluble floating iron ions.

In the middle of the hill on your left, there is an old abandoned ore refinery. It is known as the 13-level Smelter or the 13 Layer Heritage Site. It was built during the Japanese Era for refining gold and copper, and for selecting quality ore.

Driving uphill for about 5 mins and we reached Golden Waterfall. The water is indeed a beautiful golden color. I had to run in the rain to get these shots, again, not as good as when the sun is shining.  Apparently the water is toxic so visitors were not allowed to go near the waterfall. Also, the water from this waterfall flows down a river stream and runs off into the Yin Yang Sea. Pretty cool eh?
